Lori Beth Williams

March 31, 1959 – March 27, 2024

Lori Williams was a dear and long-time friend to Madden’s family. Her legacy lives on in many ways, through generous support of the Madden McKean Foundation, and also in her musical legacy through a special gift given to Farmington High School, where Madden would have gone. Read that story here.

Lori Beth Williams, just shy of her 65th birthday, passed away on Wednesday, March 27th at her home in Northfield, MN. Lori was born on March 31,1959, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Richard and Barbara (Karko) Wiliams.

Anyone who knew Lori knew she had a BIG laugh, loved to play music, and lived life on her own terms. She loved fiercely and had many passions. The alto sax was her first love, which she started to learn in secret as a teenager, much to her parents’ dismay. She fell in love with playing the alto saxophone, piano, flute, mandolin and the guitar. Singing was her therapy. If she was singing, you knew it was going to be a good day. Her children were her life. She was a committed mother who supported her children’s creative endeavors. She loved her children with all her heart and wanted nothing more than for them to know that. Lori was a voracious learner. She was well read and routinely shared her knowledge with others. Even if you didn’t want the book she told you about, you knew better than to say no. Her wicked sense of humor was as great as her laugh. If you’ve ever heard her laugh, you can hear it now. Laughing until her dimples cracked, tears rolled down her cheeks and she nearly peed her pants was a favorite pastime. Lori loved traveling the world. Her favorite escapes were to Bali, Greece, Italy, and Thailand. Lori was not only well traveled, she was an avid, competitive athlete. She was a skier, tennis player, mountain biker, hiker, and yogini. At her best, she was powerful in her body and her mind. She will be remembered as bold, vibrant and a force of nature.

Lori will always be remembered by her children, Nathaniel ‘Nate’ Nickel, Barbara ‘Babs’ Nickel, Maxwell ‘Max’ Nickel; siblings, Linda (Lindy) Williams, Mark (Jane) Williams; as well as her nieces, nephews, other extended family and many friends all over the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Barbara; and her brother, Richard ‘Rick’ Williams.
